You’re driving around in your car. Someone pulls out in front of you and you swerve and miss. You’re safe, but your heart is racing, your palms are sweating, and you feel fearful and anxious for hours, maybe even days later. You want to release this form of suffering that you have long after the event, and you surely do not want to feel this anxious in the future.
Does hypnotherapy work for anxiety? You bet it does. Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a great tool for working with anxiety, so let’s begin by defining NLP. NLP is a form of hypnosis where the client is placed into a light trance. In this light trance, NLP is a way of speaking specifically to the brain in its own language to help to reduce and even eliminate intense anxiety or panic attacks.
How Anxiety Works in the Brain
The amygdala is located in the limbic system. This is the part of the brain responsible for telling the body when to run away or stand and fight. When the amygdala is over-responding to a non-harmful stimulus the individual will feel out of control and the body will go through processes that can feel extremely overwhelming. These symptoms can include shallow and fast breathing, increased heart rate, sweaty palms, light headedness and intense fear. The interesting thing about this is the fact that it’s just an over-reaction by the subconscious mind and it can be redirected relatively easily.
Releasing Anxiety in Seconds
I’ve seen clients over and over again go from a state of panic to a state of relaxation in mere seconds. When you know how to speak to the brain correctly you can do anything and overcome any challenge. The first thing I teach my clients is that they have control over their emotions. We go through a process that helps them to regain control over their feelings right away.
Overcoming the Challenge
Having suffered from anxiety for a number of years, I know how it feels to have that out of control, fearful, helpless feeling. It’s as if this is just how you are going to be forever and nothing will change. This is not true! I know this from experience and I have seen the magic of this work happen for my clients on a daily basis. I’m a teaching hypnotist, I will teach my clients every trick in the book to help them overcome their panic. I truly believe that if you are given the tools you can overcome your challenges easily. How does hypnotherapy work for anxiety? Rather simply, if you think about it. It’s just a matter of relaxing, redirecting and breathing. With hypnosis and NLP, you can overcome this and many other challenges.
